About the Class

Welcome to our engaging Inspired! Creative Writing Adventure, where young minds aged 6-10 embark on a weekly exploration of storytelling magic. Led by a graduate student pursuing a Master of Education, this ongoing class promises a nurturing environment for budding writers to flourish. Overview of the Course: Frequency: Once a week Duration: 9 classes over 10 weeks Format: Standalone sessions with unique themes each week Objective: Cultivating storytelling skills through imaginative writing To ensure personalized attention, we limit our class size to 8 students. In the event of an absence, we offer a credit for another VKC class as a one-time benefit. Class Structure: 1. Brainstorming Session: At the start of each class, students dive into the theme of the week. They are presented with a variety of options for characters, settings, and story problems. They shape their narrative ideas and fill out a comprehensive graphic organizer covering characters, settings, problems, and solutions. 2. Writing Exploration: With their story elements in place, students embark on crafting their narrative. Supported by examples and guidance from the instructor, young writers bring their stories to life. Students may choose to illustrate their stories, enhancing their creative expression. 3. Sharing and Celebration: Students can share their completed stories with the class. Whether through oral storytelling or submitting written work, every young author gets a platform to showcase their creativity. Weekly Themes and Story Elements: Themes include captivating characters, intriguing settings, and imaginative problems, inspiring young writers to unleash their storytelling potential.
