About the Book
Stories from the Village is back for a second year — a funny, big-hearted anthology written and illustrated by young authors ages 6 to 9 at The Village Kids' Club in Alameda, California. Every story was dreamed up, drafted, and illustrated by its young creator during a single week at our Book Writing Studio Camp, with barely any grown-up help.
Inside you'll find twelve tales and not one dull page: a waffle craving that spirals wildly out of control, a museum heist over a one-of-a-kind 24-karat gold Labubu, an eagle with a secret (he can't fly yet), a sandwich that makes teeth melt, a dad who wins the World Cup in a dream, a bowl of soup that ends up in the hospital, a lost kitten who finds a home, and two famous villains who accidentally learn how good it feels to be good.
These stories are silly, tender, surprising, and completely the kids' own. We give young writers the time, tools, and trust to tell their stories, and then we mostly get out of the way — because when children write their own books, they also write themselves into the world as confident, capable storytellers.
Perfect for bedtime giggles, classroom read-alouds, or a gift for the young reader in your life. We're proud of our authors and illustrators, and we hope their stories bring your family as much joy as they brought ours.
