About the Class
About the Course: While the Bay Area is a hub of culture, innovation, and community, the importance of personal safety cannot be overstated. Our Martial Arts & Self-Defense class is designed keeping in mind the distinctive needs of the Bay Area's young residents. This program focuses on practical self-defense techniques that elementary aged kids can use immediately. Our instructor is a black belt in karate, and infuses lessons about appropriate use of self-defense techniques, peacemaking, running away - and also how to get away when an adult is trying to pull or grab the child. In our six class course, students will: *Learn basic stances, forms, and breathing techniques tailored for real-world situations. *Enhance self-awareness, helping them navigate the vibrant yet busy streets and parks safely. *Participate in a safe, positive, and encouraging environment that champions peacemaking. This class is included at no additional cost for our members, please reach out to enroll. This is a "come as you are" class - no uniforms needed. Please wear comfortable clothing. About the Instructor: Ryan Rochel brings a rich Karate background, as a second degree black belt, and lead instructor. He has a knack for designing classes that cater specifically to children, ensuring they are engaging, informative, and relevant.

Cancellation Policy
When you enroll in our multi-class course, you're securing a dedicated spot for your child in a small group learning experience. Our course fee is set with the understanding that students may occasionally miss a class due to illness or other commitments. This allows us to maintain consistent small group sizes that enhance learning and ensure teacher availability for every session. While we cannot offer credits or makeups for classes your child is unable to attend, we are committed to delivering all the classes in each course. If we need to cancel a class due to teacher illness or emergency, we will schedule a makeup class by extending the course schedule, or creating an additional class at a different time. This ensures every student receives the full class experience they enrolled for. If you know your child will miss some sessions, we will pro-rate at the time of enrollment. For new students joining mid-course, we happily pro-rate the course fee based on the remaining classes. This adjustment must be arranged at the time of enrollment. Think of our courses like a semester at school or a sports team season - your enrollment reserves your child's spot in the group, ensuring they can build skills alongside their peers in a consistent, supportive environment. This structure helps us create the best possible learning experience for all our students. We appreciate your understanding and commitment to making our small group classes a success.
