About the Class

How much can you really do with a single sheet of paper? Over ten weeks, kids find out. They design and test their own paper airplanes, fold an origami zoo, engineer pop-up cards, and build puppets with moving parts — turning plain paper into things that fly, spin, surprise, and delight. Along the way, they stretch their creativity and design thinking, sharpen fine-motor skills and attention to detail, and feel the satisfaction of making something real with their own two hands — all while having a great time. Ages: 5–9 When: day and time to be confirmed · 10 weeks Where: The Village, 1102 Lincoln Avenue, Alameda Instructor: Diallo The ten-week build: Week 1 — Paper Airplanes: experiment with different designs, test them, tweak them, and learn what makes them fly Week 2 — Paper Helicopters: build spinning helicopters and play with size, angle, and weight Weeks 3–5 — Origami Zoo: fold two or three paper animals (including the classic jumping frog) and design a habitat for them to live in Week 6 — Pop-up Cards: simple pop-ups to make for friends and family on special occasions Weeks 7–8 — Paper Puppets: create a character with moving parts, then star it in a short puppet challenge Week 9 — Paper Weaving: weave a placemat from colorful strips of paper Week 10 — Perfect Your Art: add the finishing touches to a favorite project, or try a design there wasn't time for the first time around This is a course: kids enroll for the full 10-week series so the group builds together, like a school semester.
