About the Class

Ballet Beats is an introductory ballet series designed for children ages 5–9 who love to move, explore, imagine, and create. Rooted in strong ballet fundamentals, this program blends classical technique with rhythms, music, and movement styles from around the world, giving dancers a rich, engaging, and culturally diverse experience. Through a thoughtfully structured 10-class journey, dancers learn foundational ballet skills—posture, positions, pliés, tendus, balance, travel steps, and expressive movement—while being guided by original music that reflects global influences like Afro-Caribbean grooves, Latin percussion, urban beats, cinematic world textures, folk rhythms, and more. Each class blends technique, creative expression, and imaginative storytelling, helping students: Build strength, balance, coordination, and flexibility Develop musicality, rhythm awareness, and confidence Explore movement qualities like big/small, fast/slow, smooth/sharp Learn to express emotions and ideas through dance Discover cultures, sounds, and stories from around the world Feel connected to their community through music grounded in Alameda and the Village Kids Club spirit The Ballet Beats environment is welcoming, inclusive, and joyful—an uplifting place where every child can shine. No special dancewear, no special shoes, no prior dance experience required. Children simply come in comfortable clothes they can move freely in.
